International Women’s day Celebration at AIMS Tanzania

The soft drizzles that marked the start of AIMS Tanzania march through the narrow streets of the historical town of Bagamoyo seemed to be nature’s way of acknowledging the importance of the International Women’s Day. The march ended at Tasuba – the only College of performing Arts in Tanzania where the fun filled event took place.

The light rains made the otherwise very hot weather bearable for AIMS Tanzania and students from seven secondary schools within the district to march to the venue. The participants snaked through the narrow streets of Bagamoyo with their posters bearing messages in support of women empowerment.  This caused quite a stir to the curious on lookers on the streets and nearby primary schools.

At the venue there were motivational talks from invited guests, teachers and AIMS students to invited girls from different schools. Representatives from the girls’ schools gave testimonies on the challenges that they face in the journey through education. They also encouraged each other and challenged teachers, parents and education managers present to support them. There were break out groups where the girls under the guidance of AIMS female students discussed various issues affecting them in their quest for learning and especially pursuing the male dominated Mathematical science field.

Through the action packed program which was expertly handled by AIMS Tanzania female students, there were moments of dance and song. A local acrobat also graced the occasion with his amusing antics.

Two media houses – Mlimani TV and Independent Television (ITV) covered the event. They contacted various interviews with AIMS Management, Students, the invited guests and students.

All the participants were invited to an open air lunch served by the competent AIMS Tanzania catering team.
